Karachi: Fro-Yo is back, back again.

Fro-yo (frozen yogurt) was best remembered as a passing food fad in Karachi, with an occasional, “does anybody still serve it any more?” Until YoFroyo. YoFroyo recently opened its doors at Khayaban e Shahbaz, after making a brief appearance at a food festival called The Locate. The buzz it generated after its first pop-up was an early indication that people were now ready to embrace the dessert back into their lives, after giving up on it too quickly earlier.

The recently opened outlet is just like any other fro-yo shop in Karachi we may remember from back in the day. Spacious, brightly lit – almost whitewashing any colours you might see, with one side of its wall taken by yogurt stations offering fro-yo in different flavours: green apple, lychee, blueberry, chocolate, mango and so on and another by a counter with built-in space for different options of toppings: pineapples, kiwis, jellies, boba, sprinkles etc.

When you look around for directions, a server appears asking if you’d prefer the fro-yo to be sweet or tangy, with mango and chocolate being the sweet options and the fruit options falling in the tangy category.

The green apple and blueberry fro-yo we chose on first glance looked like ice cream that looks a little more pale than we are accustomed to. We hesitatingly topped it with kiwi, pineapples and boba trying not to hide the froyo completely.

A single bite of the yogurt and all our inhibitions are taken away. The froyo is delightfully ice-cold, tangy and sweet at once. The sweetness from the topped pineapples and boba add a fun texture combination and your mind is thinking: This, right here, is it. Don’t ever leave again, fro-yo.

You unfortunately have to leave though after you are done eating. But there’s always another day.
